I actually bought the Freelancer off Chris Ells from VEAO last year.
He'd spent too much money on star citizen and realised he needed some for the Hawk!
I'm considering a Freelancer. But if the Reclaimer is offered, you will all be able to make fun of me for missing one of the key lessons in the "Emperors New Clothes."
Must.
Have.
It.

It's awesome, although very much a giant time sink if you want to make any progress.
Yeah, looks good but just don't think I have the time for it. Might pick it up on the cheap in a few months
Just got access to the 2.0 alpha (very ED-ish of them). Going to jump in my Super Hornet and stream if anyone wants to check it out.
Wake on a space station, select ship, go grab ship on a platform, and then there are 20ish missions. I have no practice so I'm sure I'll suck... but it sure is perrrty.
Is it out yet as campaign? Not very clear to me on how to get in to it. Purchasing a spacecraft, subscription?
The full game won't be out for at least a year. However, alphas of gameplay have been released periodically with the ability to do various things. The current Alpha, 2.0, coincidentally released days before ED's own 2.0 alpha, includes the gameplay features at the following link. The above video is not a current capability, it was just an in-engine tech demonstration that was ridiculously cool.

To play the Alpha now, you have to purchase a game package which includes a ship. There is currently a US $30 sale on the lowest package, which includes both the online game (known as the Persistent Universe) and the single player game when they're released. There's only 5000 of those $30 packages released. As of this post, there are 1524 of those 5000 left.
