Hello, Wil. How do you afford to fly in the U.K. with fuel prices so insane?

Don't bother answering that as I know the answer is contained in my favorite flying joke.

Q: How much money does it take to fly?
    A: All of it.

    Welcome to the forum!

Is there like a recruitment signup line somewhere or how is the candidates selected?

For how long will it be closed or on an average how long time does it take to graduate before it opens again?

I want to join but it is not a must to join now and I bet there is at least four people in line before me anyway :-)

    Heya Avec.

    1. To my knowledge, we do not keep track of new people that want to sign up.
    2. Snoopy answered for how long will it be closed or when we expect to open it up.
2.5 How long it takes? There is no definite answer to that one. We seen pilots pass as little as 25 hours, as much as 75 hours and some did not made it. It really depends on per trainee basis and previous experience and understanding. Due to this we are in process of finalizing new training outline so it's going to be better for everyone.
    3. I would say, based on Snoopy's post, it's going to be who ever manages to sign up first to the point of when recruitment closes.

    1) Trainees are accepted based on a first come, first serve que. When an individual submits an application a welcome email is sent requesting a "meet & great" on teamspeak. It's isn't an interview but more a "will this individual fit into the 476th vFG (personality/attitude). Experience is nice but not required. Honestly a trainee who has many hours flying SP is sometimes harder to train than someone who has very few hours because the indivudal with experience already has “bad” habits we have to break.

We plan on having only 4 fixed wing (A-10) trainees at a time. Yes it's a small number but we (Command Staff) feel this will allow us to focus on the 4 individuals and will actually lead to them completing IQT & MQT quicker. Currently we don't have a "waiting list" but it's something I've thought about but not something Command Staff has decided on.

    2) We hope to open recruitment up within 2 weeks but that date could be pushed up or out depending on internal items.

    3) Like Nu said, it really depends on the pilot how quickly they complete IQT & MQT. Trainees have 6 months to complete each training course but our goal is for it not to take that long. If a pilot joins and shows they can complete the items required quickly there is nothing wrong with that. The key isn't just being able to fly the aircraft but learning the Operating Instructions and how we do things in the 476th vFG.

Don’t be discouraged by the wait for us to open applications. We may appear to have everything figured out and solidified but truth is the 476th vFG is only 5th months old (we went live late March, early April this year) so we’re evolving our training and such. We’ve got a lot of ideas for the future of the 476th, of course I’m biased but I think the wait will be worth it!
