    Thrustmaster Warthog Thorttle

Since the AP button on left throttle is partly operational I was using the one on the base. Until it stopped working the other day. So I decided to open it up and check it out. Once I saw it i got the cheap feeling.

Here are some pics of the TM WH throttle inner workings.

Used the ohmmeter on the switch its self and the wiring and it always showed OK. The one on left throttle is still partial I will have to take it out one day and disassemble the switch it's self. Not in the mood for it today.

WTF, where's that black stuff coming from?
Altough i still think it is a very nice piece of hardware it's not the best quality when you think of the 400euro you paid for it
Anyway thanks for sharing these pics NU

That black stuff is plastic from friction when you move the throttles. There is absolutely no other explanation for it.
I have no idea what that white stuff is. My guess would be some residue of the hot glue or some circuit protection coating, etc.
And yes it is impressive but the more you look at it, the more you get to think - 400€?!! really?

Both AP and L/G WRN buttons are complete plastic, unlike other switches which are massive and metal.

The WH might look surprisingly cheap when you open it up, but if you were to compare it side by side with an X52 or something similar it'd be a hell of a lot better in comparison.

You should see what real HOTAS components look like on the inside, trust me, they ain't much better and they break more often. And not only that, they cost more too.

A big factor in the cost of the WH is how few they sell in comparison to the cheap & nasty sticks. They are only bought by the enthusiasts and only the ones with the money for such things. Whereas cheaper stuff is bought by all types of gamers, including the Battlefield players and even console gamers.

Yeah I know exactly what you mean Eddie. A friend of mine told me once, those real controls can be really wobbly. Flying with TM WH is just great

    Yeah I completely understand Eddie.
Some of the controle and wiring I have seen in our jets give you the same cheap feeling.... And we carry 200 People. ;-)
But then again, what would make you find it less cheap? Gold plated? Big heavy Iron cast parts?

I remember when we started our hornet sims we found the company who makes the actual throttle quadrants for the real one. 80k dollars and the whole piece is about 2 feet high, underneath is a mess of what looks like pulleys and tensioners. Obviously it works brilliantly and is very smooth, but it was insane to see. Crazy really, I think Thrustmaster did an outstanding job with the WH because it is a lot of quality for what you pay for it comparatively. Compromises have to be made to offer the public such a great piece of hardware and thats where the plastic comes in. That black crap is no doubt plastic shavings from simple use from friction moving the thrust levers forward and back.

Now if they would either remake the F16 HOTAS or do an F18 handle for fast mover I would be very happy
