I looked at that too. Way overpriced for what it is.
Make friends with your local metal roofing guy. Many metal roofing shops have press brakes. They could fab those up for you for a lot less, and even custom make them to fit your specific desk and joystick setup. If you want to fancy it up the textured paint is sold at any big box store like Lowe's or Home Depot, not mention any local paint supply store.
If you do have them fab it up, do them out of mild steel, aluminum hard enough to be stable will develop stress cracks if bent that sharply. It looks like they used extrusions or castings for part of it to avoid that problem, but good luck finding those without meeting a minimum order. A standard press brake can work sheet in small cross section up to 1/8 inch, but something like 14 or even 16 gauge (bigger numbers are thinner, doesn't make sense to me either) should work depending on size and design. If you don't have a welder or access to one, it would not be hard to redesign them a little to avoid welds, and rivet them together. Unless you really beat on your equipment, rivets should hold just fine. Hiring a welder, even taking them to a local trade school to have them do it, costs serious $$$ these days, and would negate most of your savings. I would think something along those lines would not be too hard to do in wood, but I am not a woodworker so can't really say much about that. The last time I tried to build a simple bench, I broke my foot! Maybe Comrade can give us some pics or ideas along those lines?
It's already on my list to fab up something like those when I get my shop done, and get a small press brake. I actually dislike sheet metal work, but having what amounts to a metalworking shop, I might as well have some sheet working capability :P (But give me my hammer and anvil any day!)
Where I will really get in trouble though, is if I can do that, I can also fab up a pit frame and skin, and that Aces II seat doesn't look like it would be too terribly difficult, and..... I end up sleeping on the couch
Snoopy, I thought you already had a pit like Jedi's, your pic actually surprised me!
