I always look in awe at your pics. Somehow the coloring and/or shadowing of your gameworld seems to be that much more real than mine.
Can I ask what graphics settings you are using? Do you use a HDR setting, ot not? Any visual mods?

I'm running the sim on a ATI 6970 with 2GB of memory. Catalyst drivers 11.6
In the catalyst control panel, my settings are like this:


In the sim, I've got following settings:

I left water on medium, because it's not really a added value to the sim IMO. (besides being able to say that you have everything on max)



The only mod I've got installed that does something on the "world" is the High Resolution Terrain Noise texture : http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=76462

Thanks for the feedback, Stuka! Much appreciated.
I leave Water on LOW cause I find it highly realistic even on LOW and because it has no 3D surface it keeps the load off my CPU for other tasks.
Other than that I am running at pretty much the same settings.
Civ traffic OFF for me though, but that does not impact coloring or such. So it must be your gamma setting or videocard native coloring then. Cool stuff!
