Strike aircraft 2 or 4 ship?
Reading about the RAF Tornado's hitting IS at the moment and it sounds like they're mostly in pairs.
Is this due to the type of target being hit or expected threat level of the AO? Do tandem seat aircraft tend to fly more often as 2 ships than 4 or does it make no difference?
Are there certain missions that would usually require a 4 ship?

In my experience it all depends on the tasking and available resources to complete the task. For example there is a considerable difference in the logistic support needed for 4-ship taskings as opposed to 2-ships. Given Tornado Force reductions I suspect anything more than a 2-ship tasking is not sustainable.

It depends on the target/mission. 4 ships are essentially only used for pre-plan strikes as far as air to ground goes. The CAS mission really doesn't lend itself to 4 ships.
In short all aircraft operate in two ships unless the mission requires a four ship.
