A-10C, F/A-18C, AH-1W... which would be your main ride?

Just trying to get a feel for numbers, all hypothetically of course as command staff make the final decision on what modules we'll be flying or not (if they ever get made!).

Afraid it's the Hornet for me chaps... Still got love for the Hog though.

Seeing as how they are both years away I don't think it really matters all that much right now honestly. Plus who knows, we may not even adopt both of them.

But my guess is most people will jump to the "new and shiny".

I can tell with 101% certainty that AH-1 is not for me.

So that leaves A-10C and F/A-18C for me. Due to my limited time, I guess it's A-10C for me

Until proven otherwise (time to spare, etc...), I'll stick to the A-10. But that doesn't mean I won't own nor fly the F/A-18. But as Snoopy said, much can change in years, we'll see how it goes when the time arrives.

There's a lot to be said for new and shiny but also for sticking to what you know. I don't think I'd drop the A-10 all together.

The main appeal for me would be the ability to fly different mission types. Being able to fly SEAD, Strike and CAP would be a blast but I'd still come back to the Hog for some BAI from time to time.

Another thing to remember, for each airframe we adopt we will require members to complete official training on those airframes as well. It may only be MQT but that too is TBD.

I know that I haven't been flying the A-10 anywhere near as long as most of our pilots, but last night's flight reminded me how extremely immersive our A-10 sim is.

That started with real feelings of apprehension taxiing around an unfamiliar airport at night, which was further compounded by a night take-off that had me actually feeling like I was doing something a little bit dangerous. Once in the air, the winds aloft had me trying to figure out why my plane was acting squirrely, until I trimmed out my aircraft. The immersion factor is second to none for me in the A-10.

After an unfortunate CTD I was further impressed as the radio calls from my flight faded in and out as they travelled further and further from my aircraft now on the ground, as I practiced entering nav information into my flight computer.

I can only imagine how much deeper the rabbit hole will go once devices like the Oculus Rift visually become viable replacements to my monitor.

Sure DCS isn’t perfect (wings sheering at moderate g-loads come to mind) but DCS A-10 never fails to blow me away with its depth and attention to detail. For me, any airframe that can meet or exceed the bar set by the A-10 will be a must have in my book.

And before we are having MQT available for new aircraft, we'll first need people to step up and write the docs.

But to answer the question: I like the A-10 a lot. Good chance it will stay my primary. But let me decide that once there is actually something available.
