I've been lurking your site for almost a year now, trying to train myself up. Guessed I missed the last sign-up window. Just wanted to finally say Hi. I'll keep checking back in hopes of a new class.

Welcome, it'll be a few months until we start another class. This one will be finished in another month or so then us IPs will take a break (aka fly combat for a while) update/refine the training docs then open up again.

Would flying with the group on an informal basis be possible until classes open? To be frank, flying alone gets somewhat...dull.

Unfortunately no we don't allow that at the moment. But at one time a few pilots that want to eventually apply use to get together occasionally but they haven't posted/said anything here about that recently.

Edit: Assuming one can perform the prerequisites listed on the recruitment page, are there any specific areas I should focus on to reduce IP time/effort(if accepted)?

I'm working on my TM stick right now, so I'm grounded for a few days, I'm usually on TS and steam, if your on steam, poke me and we can talk about flying, I'm on EDST and I find my self in the pit from 1900 to 2300 almost nightly, not always flying I like to ARMA III when I can't fly(thus the steam account). Ashy and I usually fly together but my stick has me grounded. My crapy TM hog stick has cracked pressure ring, TM has been sending me similarly cracked parts, they've offered to return my money. I'm 3D printing my improved Pressure ring now. With a spring mod I should be able to fly tomorrow night using the Printed piece, unless TM pins are missing where I put my holes. Let me know.
