    Adding a 2nd/virtual joystick X axis

    I was hoping somebody could give me some pointers on this..

    I am trying to create a virtual joystick axis which is basically an instant copy of the Y axis of my HOTAS WH. This way I can leave the actual Y axis untouched for pitch control and simultanuosly map the virtual/2nd Y axis to the wheelbrakes. As a finishing touch I'd set the curve for the wheelbrakes as a slider in a way that 0% brake is applied when the stick is centered and 100% brake applied when the stick is pointed fully forward. I've tested this trick and it works fllawlessly, now I'm just looking for a way to have the stick's forward motion control pitch down and brakes at the same time.

    By doing this what are you achieving? Do you not have rudder pedals? I just don't see the advantage to this from my point of view. I'm more curious of what you are conjuring up?

    I don't have an analog axis available for the brakes, only buttons/keys which would result in a digital control of either 0% brakes or 100% brakes. Currently I'm using a modifier button + Joy Y as the break with the curves as explained above. This works but it is inconvenient when e.g. running up because I need to control the throttle, hold down the modifier, etc. Long story short, if I can have the physical stick control two independent Y axis (the actual + a virtual one), I'm fairly confident my problem is solved.

    Corrected. I mixed up X and Y initially.

    Firstly I installed vJoy. This creates a virtual joystick but does not offer a GUI to setup this vstick. Secondly I insyalled UJR, universal joystick remapper, which is a UI to map inputs of a physical stick to a virtual stick, but only if the latter is already present. It cannot create a virtual stick.

    Now back to DCS. HOTAS stick Y is still mapped to pitch control, whereas virtual device #1 Y is mapped to the brake axis. As setup in UJR, virtual Y is a 1:1 copy of the actual Y. Using axis fine tuning in DCS I've made sure that any backward Y movement does not have any effect while forward Y movement applies brakes in a linear fashion.

    Effectively:

    Pull the stick: elevators tilt upwards
    Neutral stick: nothing happens
    Push the stick: elevators tilt downwards & brakes are applied simultaneously.

    AFAIK you never brake w/o having the nosewheel on the ground anyway so I see no conflict in having one control input affect both outputs at the same time. Only thing is you'll see my elevator control surface tilt down when I'm breaking which obviously wouldn't be the case in the real jet but let's just assume I accidentally push the stick fwd when hitting the brake pedals.

    If more people are interested in this because their pedals does not have an analog brake axis available, I could make a small tutorial with screenshots included.
