Here's a pdf I put together on TACAN Navigation, I hope its useful to you all. It just anchors down on what Tex has already explained. Feedback is encouraged.

There are a few things I need to edit in the file as I caught a couple errors haha

Tex, my buddy went through API with me in 2012 in Pensacola. A few Air Force guys went through Navy API with us in Pensacola. Some went C-130s and I think 1 went Vipers.

    **EDIT**

Here's a new version with a couple fixes.

    TACAN_HSI Navigation.pdf

Key things to remember when doing fix to fix (point to point):

    1. Your A/C is always at the TAIL of the needle on the inner circle of the HSI
    2. The TACAN is the center of the HSI

The RMI is the King Kong of instruments! The bearing needles in the HSI serve the RMI function.

    FYI
    http://static.e-publishing.af.mil/pr...1-2a-10cv3.pdf
Seems like the A-10 can fly some Basic RNAV with limitation (1H30M) since fix if I read this correctly, but technically flying to the RNAV point using the INS and not flying RNAV as a GPS solution point in itself?

Here is a TCN APP Ive made trying to comply with PANS-OPS/MIPS as much as Im capable of making it if you want to try to fly it or add it to your list.

    Cheers
    Bravo

The Vol 3 states the A-10's approved use of RNAV is limited to en route point-to-point navigation only, meaning it can be used for "random route" operations on or off airways between a series of navaids and/or fixes. However, flying on defined RNAV airways (Q- and T-Routes) in the en route environment is not approved.

Flying RNAV terminal procedures is not approved, so any IAP, SID/DP, or STAR must be flown with reference to ground-based navaids, and procedures with RNAV in the title cannot be flown at all. Without MAJCOM approval, that is. I assume that any such approval would also involve letters of agreement with the FAA and some form of performance monitoring

    You're welcome!

I also should have explained further that (in the US) V- and J-Routes are okay for point-to-point, while the Q- and T-Routes are not.

I've been away from real-world aviation for too long to remember with any certainty how this compares to the airspace structure in Europe, with its multitude of different airway designators (UL/UP, etc...). I can't remember if any of those airway types require RNAV RNP or not. We have a few airline guys who operate routinely in Eurocontrol airspace, so maybe they could chime in...

Most routes in Euro airspace are VOR to VOR with points located on airway crossings or country borders. Airspace itself is currently going through a major change as more and more countries inside Eurocontrol are implementing Free Route Airspace, enabling direct flights almost from the point of departure to the initial approach fix at the destination.
