What are the 3rd and 4th aircraft from the bottom? Su-22 and Hornet?
Yeah the 3rd one looks like an SU22 but the 4th one is an F15C from the rear im pretty sure.
Its interesting how the canards on Typhoon tilt the way they do. You would think that because of where their pivot point is located they would droop like the elevons on F16s. Are they mechanically driven to that up position and locked there? Or do they really just droop that way after hydraulic pressure is gone?
When power is removed from the FCS, and therefore all the actuators, the Foreplanes are driven to that position and the other control surfaces tend to move to full deflection in one direction or another.
On startup when power is applied to the FCS and the system accepts its configuration data etc. all the control surfaces are driven to their neutral position.
Due to the Typoon being a delta wing, does it tend to bleed speed quickly in tight turns in the way that a MiG-21 would or does the the FCS use some kind of magic to get around this?
Much of what I've heard/read from aircrew suggests the opposite. It's apparently sometimes quite difficult to slow the thing down, although that is largely anecdotal.
That said, at high AoA (and it does achieve some very high AoA) it's going to bleed speed like any aircraft would. I think that the performance of the engines does a good job of making up for it though.
