AAR Using Tacan - No Distance Info

Like the title suggests I have created my own AAR mission using the editor. For some reason I have the TACAN set to 11X but I can never get a distance reading to the tanker. I have done a similar mission created by others and the distance works just fine. Does anyone have a suggestions on any mistakes I might have made in the mission creation?

If you want, you can attach the mission file here. So we can have a look for you.

I got it figured out. It seems it doesn't like the 11X for tacan. I switched it to 16X and it works great.

Make sure your TACAN was set TO A/A T/R, Receive only gets bearing and not range!
BTW, 16X is Batumi so to avoid confusion I would go with something other than airfield TACANs

Typically A/A TACANs use Yankee instead of X-Ray for this reason. Most ground based systems use X-Ray.

Although, as an aside (if DCS were true to life) you shouldn't get distance reading for a KC-135. So you're accidentally extra realistic.

I just confirmed that using the same TACAN for ground vs air create different results. It is possible to have 16X set for a tanker and Batumi with no conflict. T/R will only pick up Batumi and A/A T/R will only pick up the tanker. I am going to use Y as suggested for aircraft going forward just to be sure.

    Eddie,

Is this a limitation with the A-10? We always got distance info with the KC-135 on our MC-130. Quite possible we have different systems but it seems not having distance would be detrimental for the A-10.

Shouldn't the a10 have the tanker on TAD too?

It's ok, I'm being a retard, I misread the thread and I was actually referring to bearing. Which last I read could only be provided by the KC-10.

KC-135 don't have SADL, so no.

If DCS stimulated the link-16 gateway then yes we'd get that kind of information via AWACS etc., but alas it doesn't.
