    RWR Brevity

It is clear that we have those terms for the RWR:
MUD - indicates ground threat displayed with no launchidentification.
NEILS - indication of Air Intercept radar in search.
SPIKE - indication of an Air Intercept threat in track or launch.

Is there Brevity term for the ground thread being in track or launch ?

I've already talked about it with a few members already, we did go through 476TTP3-1.1 document and we concluded that we could not find any term which would be appropriate for such condition and my reasoning is that it is quite the difference between seeing sth on the RWR or this sth locking you up and firing at you.

Singer in the term you're looking for. And it is in the brevity guide.

It refers to an emitter launch indication. A lock/track is also covered by Mud.

Ok, now I think my question was not entirely clear. I know about Singer term and definitely its there.
I just thought that there might be separate term for lock/track for the ground targets.

Anyway, what I was missing was this: "A lock/track is also covered by Mud" - thank you!

I have definitely never heard anyone use that term (though I know it) and the lack of its use causes me to not use it I think.

I think one that most people don't know that term, but I guess more importantly is that almost none of the SAM systems we deal with in DCS switch to launch mode. In DCS we almost always get a missile ('M') warning from the MWS, which is different than a SAM systems radar going in launch mode. There's a slight difference there. But I call my Eddie helpline to expand on this subject.

    Per open source:

RWR indication of a surface threat in Search mode is DIRT.

RWR indication of a surface threat in Track mode is MUD.

RWR indication of a surface threat missile launch is SINGER.

Edit: And for the record, DCS' modeling of the RWR and anything related to EW/EA/EP is abysmal. I generally feel like the DCS RWR is a noisemaker that's only there to add aural ambiance while flying, and it doesn't even do that correctly.

As usual, Noodle is 100% correct. This matches what we teach at the USAF Weapons School.

I was wondering/looking for confirmation on the dirt call. I'd seen it long ago, but it was notably absent from the most recent USAF/NATO brevity manual I have (~2005).

I shall restore it in the next update of the 3-1.1.

And I believe this should be NAILS (not NEILS). Most likely a typo, but bears to correct here, so that others are not confused.

Eddie, the one that I gave you sometime ago says that it isn't a NATO brevity term, so maybe that's why.

    ---

DIRT: ** RWR indication of surface threat in search
    mode. See MUD.

**: Not a NATO brevity word.

This is from the 2005 version btw.
