See, that makes sense. I assume there must be a supply/demand issue in the UK at the moment. 5820K is still the best bang for your buck this side of the pond.

But running two games, while streaming & recording one of them at the same as rendering a video in Premiere, and various other stuff without even noticing is awesome!
Damn you all with your simple and "realistic" desires. Boring.

What are you guys using all that power for? I still run the I5 and to me it feels solid
I admit, my GFX is getting old
Yeah, to be sure, I'm not really "happy" about the decision, but it's definitely the right buy for me. There is a decent chance that in a year, I'm selling the CPU/Mobo/RAM for an E model platform, depending on what those numbers actually look like. That would be a first for me, as I've regularly upgraded every 3 years for the last ~18 years.
Well for me, it's really a platform decision. I'm jazzed about the new Samsung 950 Pro that's about to be released, and it requires I move to a new chipset. The 170 makes the most sense for my use.Originally Posted by Energy

Please don't get this question wrong, but what is so awesome about an ultra wide screen over a regular 16:9 4K screen? Obviously with respect to flightsimming. Haven't been able to get an answer on this from anybody, they all say it's just cool..
Well, a 4K 16:9 screen gives you exactly the same view as a 1920x1080 or 2560x1440 screen, you just get more pixels with each. But what you see (i.e. field of view) is the same for each. Of course more pixels, and more importantly higher pixel density, will give you a clearer more defined image provided the game has the texture detail to support it.
An ultra wide gives you a higher FoV because it's physically wider so you see more image (21:9 is the very same format used for many movies). For example, I can look almost directly forward in the pit and still see enough to each side of the HUD to fly a proper echelon, you can't with 16:9.
On the hardware side, a 4K screen is also harder to drive than a 3440x1440 screen so you need more graphics power for what,. in my opinion at least, is not that big of an improvement.
Of course a multi monitor setup would give an even larger FoV, but that also bring bezels in to play. And one of the things I love about the ultra wide is the screen size without lack of any bezel.
All of this is true for any game, assuming they support 21:9 which most modern titles do. And it's great for normal desktop use as well, being able to watch a tv show or something at full 1920x1080 and still have space to browse the web is excellent.

Sparing the second or third screen. I so know what Eddie is saying.
I have an ultra wide on my Christmas list, I'm ready to make a change from the multi monitor for this new format as well.
