    Aries + Crosstalk

From last night's mission, it's worth noting Aries stood up pretty well.

Here's a couple short examples of Aries' distance effects, plus Crosstalk's "Radio Effect".

At distance, listening to Funk and Coolhand ~100nm away. Comms sounded pretty awesome.

Same flight, listening to Funk within 500ft.

What you're hearing in those videos are the default settings except I turn Destruction up to 9. The other folks here are mostly using different settings, it's user pref.

These are just an example of settings. As Dojo said it can be a personal preference. Since it's only what you hear not what others hear.

Crosstalk is awesome. Gunny put me onto it the other day and I can't imagine not using it now. So simple, but what a great immersion factor it adds!

For those that are unfamiliar with the settings, the first frequency knob will change how much bottom end is allowed through. (The higher the number, the less low frequencies are allowed to pass (Higher numbers would replicate a smaller, more tinny speaker) Lower numbers would replicate a more bassy, larger speaker. Going too far with this will reduce the volume of the voice.

The second knob is the high frequency. The lower the number, the more muffled the sound would be (Replicating a mic that's too covered up or a speaker that is muddy sounding. Higher settings allows a more crisp, sharper sound.

There are two banks of frequencies, one applied pre FX and one applied post FX. Think of the first pair as the speaking pilots microphone, and the second one as your speaker/headset. The input frequency adjustments will have an effect on the way the following FX alter the sound. (A bassy, muddy sound will suffer worse from destruction than a clear one)

    The two FX;

Ring modulation will cause the sound to be more raspy and adds a wobbly sensation to the sound. The hz value will dictate how fast this modulation will occur, and the second, how deep the modulation will be.

Destruction will degrade the quality of the playback, replicating the sound of a poor quality radio connection. The higher this is set, the more distorted and broken the voice will be.

Bare in mind signal destruction is not dynamic as it is with Aires. Therefore setting the destruction too high can lead to barely intelligible transmissions if the speaking pilot is a long way away, because Aries will also have degraded the quality over distance.

As Dojo said, the settings are by preference, but this should help people understand what will change when they twist the knobbies!

It's cool but honestly something Aries should provide IMO.

But you miss the benefit of how when aries crashes and you're stuck listening to everyone talk at once it sounds like some Vietnam war movie with so many voices crackling. Much more amusing for that dull depressing NORDO flight home.

Crosstalk opened a new dimension of immersion for me last night. Listening to Dojo's playbacks of his twitch was even better. I am so excited for NTTR and what's to come for the 476th.

I already would be happy if Aries would always do what it's supposed to do at this point...

Providing CAS when you're all out of HUA!
