Got a reply from Thorwe today.

    Hi Lewis,
Our R&D engineers decided to go for the support for custom channel settings instead, after all it's probably what anyone would prefer in the field.
However naturally this is a bit more laborious.
Logistics tells us nonetheless an early batch should be included with one of your unit's next supply shipments.

    Cheers,
    Thorsten
Very exciting prospect. It'd allow us to have CT active on only the flight channels and off for the rest.

Dojo, that twitchstream with CT sounded un-real. Loved that comms chatter. Would love to try that out in TS someday.

Ragtop, did you hear anything from the CrossTalk guy? Or maybe did you find a workaround to have the plug-in enabled when in the flight channels, and disabled while in other channels?

It's funny - I was only just this afternoon thinking about that.

I'll send him an email - Looking at his GitHub page there have been some fairly recent updates, but nothing relevant to the request.

Yeah I noticed that his 1.6.3 BETA version has the option to toggle a per-channel setting (right click the channel > crosstalk > ... ) but as soon as I set that, it crashes TS. The default for all channels settings still work in that same BETA though.

I hadn't seen that addition if I'm honest!

I'll check it out and report back.

OK so I got a reply - He added the update:

    It's half working.

Ran some testing just now with Oliver and these were the findings:

    - You are able to right click a channel and there is now a Crosstalk menu, where you can enable Radio FX per channel. Here's where it gets interesting.

    - You can enable this on seemingly any channel EXCEPT the DS channels. This results in an immediate crash of TS3, when activating the plugin.

    - Testing this on the Alpha Briefing channel as a test, it works perfectly.

    - Dojo and Oliver were able to enable it on the DS VERY inconsistently. It required numerous attempts to make it stick.

    - I was not able even with 5-6 attempts.

We can only assume there is some sort of memory issue. Possibly specific to the DS channels. (Other channels worked fine for me).

Emailed the developer, but I'll throw this up here as a log for everyone else.

Unfortunately Aries seems unreliable enough on its own for me at the moment. I keep getting random crashes as it initialises when I jump into the pit. Crashes on exiting etc. I wish ED would work implement a working comms system of their own so we didn't have to keep messing around with such unreliable 3rd party plugins.

I think you're in the wrong hobby, Howie.

There is no flight sim, and has never existed, a world where everything we wanted was produced by the sim developer and worked smoothly. No sim ever. It's pure fantasy. One we all share, mind you, but it's never existed, and it is highly improbable that it ever will. So we have to learn to reasonably work through the challenges to play at our level.

Crosstalk is simply manipulating the output of your speakers. There is no network aspect to it whatsoever. The crashes are due to a pre-release feature we requested that turns the plugin automatically on by joining a channel, as opposed to us manually turning it on each time, a minor inconvenience.

Many of us have been flying with Crosstalk over the pass couple of months with zero issues.

From a troubleshooting point of view though, it's harder to tell what's causing a problem when you introduce more variables. For that reason alone I like to minimise the amount of mods and plugins I have installed as much as possible.

That's not to say that crosstalk is unnecessary or that I don't appreciate the features... It's just something I'm prepared to go without at the moment for simplicities sake.
