    120 + 250GB SSD best configuration?

I've just ordered another 250GB SSD as the 120GB I've got at the moment isn't really big enough for Windows 10 + DCS 2.0.

I'm thinking of mirroring everything to the new, bigger drive (using Samsung's magician software) and then keeping the old one as a back up.

    Anyone got a better suggestions?

Can you RAID them to get a 370GB drive? Or does it only work if you have two identical drives?

No, any true RAID configuration with dissimilar drive sizes would use the smaller drive's capacity, and JBOD isn't RAID. Assuming the new drive is better performing than the older, I would do the same, and use the smaller drive as a work space.

e.g. I would download everything to the 120GB "D drive" and then install to the primary 250, to maximize throughout when unzipping/RAR, or pure installing.

There's not too much you can do with two drives that small.

Actually the 120GB drive is large enough Howie, I use a 120GB SSD for my primary drive C:, I have Windows 10, DCS 1.2 and 1.5 installed along with all the programs I use. My 250 GB drive D: is an old WD, I use it to store my Documents, Downloads, Pictures, Music, etc.
There isn't much room left on C: drive, but it holds everything I need with all my storage on D:

    Thanks for the advice.

My old SSD (original Samsung 840) has extremely poor endurance in the 120GB version so I'm a bit nervous having my OS installed on it. I didn't do my research and it was a bit of an impulse buy.

I've just cancelled my original order for that reason (impulse buy) and am now trying to decide between the following:

    250GB 850 Evo - £58
    250GB 850 Pro - £99
    500GB 850 Evo - £115
    500GB 850 Pro - £171

    Somebody help!

(I think my PC is too old for the 950)

Considering budget which I must do, I would go with the 250GB Pro for my primary C: and the 500GB EVO for storage.
If cost is not a concern, I'd get two 250 Pro and configure them in a Raid 0 config and use a 500 GB for storage.
And I must agree on a previous post, 8GB's of RAM isn't enough, go with 16GB for sure!

And on a side note, if you can only purchase one drive to go along with one you already have, I agree with Dojo, no matter which one is the largest, go with the best, fastest, and most reliable drive for your primary that you intend to install your operating system on.

Pretty easy decision for your needs, the 500GB EVO is the right choice.

The performance delta with the Pro won't be perceptible for normal workloads.

Is it not worth stepping up to the 500GB 850 Pro for the added 5 year warranty and double endurance rating?

For me, the question translates to "will I replace the drive within 5 years", which is a definite yes. 10 year drive warranties are theoretically nice but a bit silly. Those endurance numbers are also rediculous. IIRC, EVOS are rated at like 20 years and pros around 40.

It's really not worth the additional money.

Edit: 1.5 million hours (EVO) vs 2 million.

$10 difference, buy a pro and don't eat out for a day. $100 diff?! buy an EVO and don't think twice.

That sounds like good logic. I'll go with the 500gb Evo then. Thanks for the help!
