    MFD Cougar Pack

Does anybody use the Thrustmaster MFD Cougar Pack? If so, is it worth getting if you use Tack IR? I'm looking into it, but feel it may be a little over the top with the IR. Anybody got any views?

I have them. I highly recommend them too. They are far better than using the mouse IMO. For instance, Using TrackIR, your head is always moving a bit. This makes the image move on the screen. When you reach for the button on the MFD, you now have a moving target to hit with the mouse. Especially when you're busy or getting shot at. With the MFD pack, they are a fixed target. No matter how much you're throwing your jet around, they are right there. Just my 2 cents.

I have them also and they are great...I also use the buttons for other functions with a modifier like gear nvgs and lights. Only thing better would be a touch screen monitor with Helios...so for the money they are a great buy

With proper adjustments of the TrackIR you shouldn't have much problems hitting the buttons. I would rather go for a big main screen. Looking into some 30" these days..

I was using TM MFDs too, but since I have Helios in use they became a backup-unit in case Helios is down.
The investment is worth the money especially if you use two 8" display (like Stuka) or one 17" display as I did.

I am torn on the Cougar MFDs. I have them, and loved them when I was running a triple monitor NVIDIA surround setup with them MFDs in the lower middle corners, but since I went to a 30" monitor they've been in a box in the garage collecting dust. I find that, especially during startup, you are typically using the mouse anyway so it's almost more effort to switch mouse-to-OSB-back to mouse over and over. During flight it is great to have them laid over the TGP...but, not necessary. I'd love to have them running in some LCDs on the side of my main monitor but no way the frame rates would hold up. Overall, for the relatively inexpensive price, I say they are worth it...but, I am not as huge a fan as most.

A little movie I made of the LCD/MFD setup back in time:

IMHO i think these MFD's are only usefull when you have a monitor for display behind them.
All buttons are directly related to these 2 displays.
Without a monitor and as stand alone i think clicking with a mouse is more usefull.
