Current DS mission - Source of low FPS found!

It is obvious that current mission on DS is huge, that is way we somehow accepted that the FPS is much lower than in simple one. Nevertheless some of us started to investigate it. Long story short the conclusion was that the problem is in the new shiny ED graphical Engine.

The truth is - it is not the case at all. The problem is not with the EDGE engine but with exporting data to TacView.
Just disable it in the Export.lua file and launch the sim.

I have checked that already, both offline and online, The results are:
    * at Nellis the lowest FPS I have is more than 30
    * just after taking off its back to 60 and more

For me its a game changer - great FPS, much less stutters.

Could you please check it out and post back here if you have the same results?

If it turns out its the same of all of us, then the question is - what should we do?
Is there a possibility to somehow grab a tacView file from the server after each flight?
Probably we should contact Frantz as well, maybe there is a way he can optimize the export when there is such a huge amount of units?

This has always been the case, but it affects some more than others.

The tacview export system is already being entirely rewritten for version 2.0 anyway, so performance issues may well improve when it is released, as well as much more data being available in tacview.

That's great news that export is being rewritten for 2.0 - had no idea about that.

I anticipated that there must be some overhead for the export, but in our case (or at least for now for me) the impact is just huge for DS mission. My current suspicion is that the more objects we would have in the scenario the higher the impact would be.

Yeah I don't doubt that object count matters. For those who do have significant performance issues you can always disable tacview on hot end and just grab a file from a wingman in the time being.

I'd be reluctant to put it back on the DS as the files we end up with are huge (we've seen 10s of GB in the past).

Does this mean we're out of options prior to the 2.0 release of Tacview as that might solve it (at least to some extent)?

Ironhog, do you have samples of FPS differences?

No, not really, but just to show you a difference, 2 examples:
    * at Nellis - depending on what I am looking at (from the cockpit) the lowest is about 35, before it was as low as 17
    * after taking off (not looking back at Vegas) its 60 or more (I have vsync turned on) - before the highest I had was less than 40

The thing is that with export disabled the sim behaves as it should - when the object count increases FPS decreases, before that you could look at Vegas, or the sky and in both cases you would have similar FPS.

Wow Ironhog thanks for this. I just checked my fps difference.

28-30fps on Nellis in pit with Tacview. Solid 60fps w/Vsync monitor refresh rate without Tacview.

Flight away from Nellis is a staggering 120 without Vsync. Setting Vsync to monitor, solid 60fps

Really hope they can get a handle on that much FPS drop, since we just all dropped for the Pro version. Hope that helps development.

    You are welcome mate

Just tell me one secret - how the hell do you have this high FPS?
If I am not mistaken we are both running the simulation on the 4K TVs, yes? Do you have your options set to low, or any other trick you are using?

Yeah it was an eye opener. Gonna keep Vsync enabled so I can lock it down to 60, since that's my Monitor refresh and I don't want tearing.
