Good find Coyote, that takes me back!! We used to do exactly the same thing on the Tornado's. You forget how wide those A-10's are!! We used to be able to get two Tornado's in one HAS and you'd get the the refuelling truck in between the wing and HAS side!!!
You get real good at pushing an A-10 back when putting them in a HAS . At Osan when I was there we didn't have enough shelters for each A-10 to be lone so we had a handful that were "double stuffed". We would push the first one all the way to the back of the has then the other infront of the first one. Good memories!
Snoopy, i'm a complete noob at this but how does it work at Robins, you don't have shelters there right?
On most of your photo's i see them parked under some kind of tent, are they always parked outside? ... are there tents a temporary solution?
HAS's were built to give protection against bomb drops etc during the cold war (sounded like a good idea at the time, even though they are now useless as seen in the gulf wars!!). The tents are sun shades, used as a cheaper (portable option in some cases) option. They basically are used to keep the sun or rain off your back during maintenance activities etc.

At Robins we have maintenance hangers (many) but we push so many F-15, C-130, C-17, and C-5s through Depot Maintenance that we have a full ramp outside as well. Recently they started purchasing "temporary" covers on the ramp.
Same thing at Moody, each A-10 is under a cover on the ramp and we have a handful of hangers for maintenance.
Yes, good memories in Germany doing this with Tornadoes....called it OTR's then....'Operational Turn Rounds'.......all hands to the decks getting the things back in the air ASAP, ready to do battle against the hoardes of the 'Red Army' swarming towards the West!......ahhh, the good old days!................ not to mention the really cheap fuel and beer available...
