I tend to agree with Joyride.
I have them setup as stand alone units without a monitor behind and I notice that clicking the buttons on screen with the mouse is usually just as convenient as pushing one of the buttons on the MFDs.

Also I agree with the remark about getting TrackIR steady.
It takes some tuning and is different with each game (I suspect due to FPS differences) but you should be able to get a fairly steady view with TrackIR. Try precision mode is one tip.

So while I think the MFDs are a cool setup to look at I dont feel them really neccessary.

i have them on an old monitor and it works real nice.... it gives a new dimension to the sim

i did not want to past the MFD's on the screen so i created this..
notice my daughter who did like also the cougar MFD's :o

this way it is easy to remove the MFD's from the monitor to use the second monitor for other purposes

I swear by them personally. I use them without any extra screens and they just sit on the desk under my monitor, they make mfd inputs much easier and faster, especially in combat.

Between the warthog, mfds and keyboard mapped to the cdu keys I rarely have to use the mouse once the jet is up and running and set up.

Maybe 2x 8" screens (Stuka) on both sides of the main, together with the Thrustmaster MFD's glued on top (same as Rat).... I might actually consider this arrangement..hmm..

Cheers Guys, So quite a few different suggestions from you all and a lot of deciding to do on my behalf. But the short list is:

    1. Don't bother, there to much trouble.
    2. Use with no display.
    3. Use with an old monitor.
    4. Use with there own dedicated displays behind.
    5. Get a monster 30 inch plus monitor.

Out of all these ideas, I like idea 4 The only problem is, I have no idea how to do it or how much it will cost? Any ideas?

    Here you go:
    2 of these : http://www.amazon.co.uk/Lilliput-UM8...6932731&sr=8-2
    And the Cougar MFD's: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Thrustmaster...sr=1-1-catcorr

    Setup is plain simple.

Cheers Stuka, I take it the 7" is to small to fit the Cougar MFD?

I may really be displaying my ignorance, but how do you extract the MFD displays to another monitor?

@Stuka: what type of monitors do you have and how is it all tied together?

@Rat: your idea is ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT. Nice work m8.

I use a pair of 7" Mimos behind my MFDs and they work very well. With the 7" screen you loose some vertical display, i.e. they're shorter than the MFD frame - not so with the 8". IIRC, the 8" has more horizontal surface than can be displayed within the MFD's frame (yes?), so you lose something either way.

Personally, I don't notice the height difference with the 7 inch Mimos; center the video from DCS properly and it's a non-issue.
