    Computer build advice

I've learned a lot more about pc computers since I randomly jumped into them for DCS 5 months ago and bought my open box, basic Alienware X51 R3. I'm thinking about doing a complete new build myself and I'm looking for some advice. After a little advice already, I've come to the following:

ASUS Z270 ROG MAXIMUS IX HERO LGA 1151 ATX Intel Motherboard
Intel i7-7700K Processer (can get both $499 +tax)

Those are the only two things I've picked out. I know nothing about what would be the best case, fans, coolers, power and what not.

This is what I currently have usable from my Alienware:

EVGA GTX 970 SC (I'm planning on using this at first with the build, then getting 1080ti eventually)

    2x8GB DDR4-2400

500GB SSD 6GB/s (plan on using)

Any advise on what I should get for the best performance at an affordable rate would be appreciated. Trying to keep it under $1500 sans GPU, but advice on anything other than an eventual 1080ti would be appreciated also. Thanks!

My original build was from an Alienware comp and it caused nothing but issues. Updates and popups would always happen during flights. I started my first build with a $900 budget. Within a year I was already upgrading. Go big or wait is my thought. Your 970 (my original card) will work well with DCS as long as you don't run TacView.

Jay, where are you getting the HERO and 7700k for $499? I've not found them for less than $550-ish. I'm doing a similar build and going with 2x16 GB DDR4, the 960 EVO 512 SSD, and water cooler for the CPU. Keeping my case, PSU, and 980ti for now. Est cost about $1340 shipped.

I was just going to buy this already made for $764 (open box at my store, off the original $899), throw my 970 in it for now and upgrade it when I need to, but I have no idea if it's motherboard is crappy compared to the HERO.
