    Aerial Refueling question for Falcon BMS Drivers

    ...or anyone, really.

    As a long time BMS Viper flier, I have become very proficient in its operation. I can aerial refuel easily.

    But so far AAR with DCS Viper is proving troublesome for me. Cant seem to hold position.

    I understand the basics, watch the tanker lights, small stick and throttle adjustments, I understand when I open the refueling door that FCS gains are damped etc.

    Any thoughts or advice?

    I find that getting the UP/DOWN squared away first and then slowly walking in to center the FORE/AFT works best. Trying to move into position in two dimensions at once is more work than necessary.

    BMS always gave me some sort of "locked in" feeling, almost like you could feel the connection and somehow it felt easier, it's a different feeling in DCS, your muscle memory is still playing BMS even if you are on a different simulation platform.

    As Emmy said as well, my recommendation is to first fix left/right, then up/down, then fore/aft.

    Right I think my main challenge is overcoming my BMS muscle memory.

    I don't have experience with BMS, but knowing DCS I don't think the boom has a physical weight that is applied to the plane's dynamic. This may account for the "locked" feeling Black was talking about.

    As Gliptal mentioned, in BMS the boom applies force to the aircraft once connected which has the effect of stabilising the aircraft and damping control inputs slightly.

    In DCS, none of that is modelled. So AAR in DCS is harder than in BMS and reality.
