Just to let you know... you won't have any use for 2x Radeon HD7970... you will actually get worse FPS with crossfire on while playing DCS titles.
Besides Nvidia cards work MUCH better with DCS.
And an i7 processor won't give you any gain with it's multi-threading because DCS engine only supports 4 threads and I'm not even sure if all four are used.
Apart from that... nice system, bet it costs a fortune

I play more games then only DCS..
So it is based on that also.
I still think it's overkill, but if you have the money, why not
Well maybe NOW it is overkill..
I could also buy a new pc every half year to be updated.
But i rather look forward.
And with multi monitor setup, i like some firepower.
And right now, i did had the money. So i thought, why not.. it was my birthday, so yeah DO IT !!
overkil not really if you have mutli monitors. But i myself for dcs would go for nvidia indeed. But there are some tricks to get crossfire working with dcs just search the forums

Nice rig. I do the same, buy ahead so I don't have to upgrade so often. I usually get 5+ years out of a rig, and even then am usually not forced to upgrade, just do so to enjoy all the new toys when I have the money . I will join the crowd though and give a +1 to an Nvidia card, I have just had better experiences with them over the years, especially for gaming. I am curious why an external HD instead of an extra internal, I am a file packrat and a half, and a single 2 TB internal drive has been enough for me. What are the advantages, that perhaps I should consider one?
The rumors of my demise are premature. Ok, I've died twice but I keep coming back, I'm worse than a stray cat!
the external to interchanche easely between my destop and laptop.
Nice specs. I have something pretty similar except for only one GTX 570 which limits me to only 2 displays. The i7 and the 16gb ram is especially nice if you do programming
