Hey guys! Found out about the 476 from Roman's videos and my reaction was basically "holy s..., this is awesome" so I made my way here and will hopefully apply for the F-16 training when recruitment is open again. In the meantime I'll have some fun with all the material you guys have on here, thanks a lot for that!
I'm fairly new to DCS (had about 75 hours logged 5 years ago, stopped because I had to focus on my studies/career), but now I have free time again and I got back into it this August and I'm currently at 300-ish hours. I've played various other "flight sims" growing up since my grandpa was a fighter pilot and gave me the flying bug. Can't go that route myself due to poor vision, but I'm saving up for flight school and I plan to get my PPL done sometime in the next 2 years.
Flew the FC3 Flanker initially as I love that jet, then used the Mirage 2000C as a stepping stone to NATO aircraft (I had no concept of how far a NM is or how speed works in knots ). After I got comfortable with that I started going back and forth between the F-16 and the F/A-18 trying to figure out which one I like most and eventually settled on the Viper. I still fly the Hornet here and there - carrier ops are good fun, especially after putting a dozen hours or so shooting approaches in the T-45. Also fly the Fishbed in ECW sometimes, but I'm putting a hold on that until I get better.
I've most of the basics down, but there's no structure to my training and while I can hold my own in A-A, but it's not really satisfying since I pretty much wing it every time (read: "ehh, I feel like cranking to the left today" or mostly reactive BFM, not much in the way of tactics). I know there's a method to this madness and I'm on a quest to find it .
Currently practicing my formation flying (tanking while the gas station is turning is still a bit sloppy and I tend to get out of position during high bank angle turns) and A-G in preparation for the "Weasels over Syria" campaign.
That's about it for my introduction I suppose, sorry if it's too long. Hope to see you in the virtual skies someday!
